Mount Hood Community College
Situated in a 212-acre campus in Gresham, Oregon, Mount Hood Community College is a public community college founded in 1966. Aside from the Gresham campus, the college has education centers at various public schools in the area, as well as the MHCC Maywood Park Center. The college is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
Many of the Career Technical Programs offered at Mount Hood Community College are also accredited by various accrediting agencies. For instance, the Certified Nursing Assistant program is accredited by the Oregon State Board of Nursing; the Dental Hygiene program, by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and the American Dental Association; the Emergency Medical Technician program, by the Oregon Department of Education; the Physical Therapy Assistant, by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education; the Respiratory Care program, by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care; and other agencies.
Programs of study offered at Mount Hood Community College include Administrative Office Professional, Art, Automotive Technology, Business Management, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Child Development and Early Education, Computer Game Development, Cosmetology, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Integrated Media, Mathematics, Medical Office Specialist, Modern Language, Music, Political Science, Practical Nurse, Psychology, Retail Management, Surgical Technology, Theatre Arts, Sustainability, Health and Safety, and other areas.
Community Education programs are offered at Mount Hood Community College, and these courses are designed to cater to various ages, backgrounds, and interests. Some Community Education classes include Creative Jewelry Making, Mosaic Art Workshop, Pottery, Knitting, Quilting, Professional Cake Decorating, Wine Tasting, and more.
While Mount Hood Community College does not operate any campus housing facilities, the college does provide lists and resources of apartment complexes in the area that students can consider as they look for housing.
Several dining locations are available to students at the campus. The Vista Dining Room, open weekdays, serves Seattle's Best Coffee, entree meals, pizza, calzone, cookies, brownies, muffins, wraps, soups, and other food selections.
The St. Helens Bistro, meanwhile, where you can get your fix of Starbucks Coffee, as well as Outtakes and soups. Inside the library, the Reader's Cup Cafe has Peets Coffee, espressos, sandwiches and salads, fruit cups, yogurts, and other snack items while you read and study.
Students are welcome to connect with the Career Planning and Counseling Center of Mount Hood Community College. The center provides information and resources to assist students in mapping out their career plan, choosing the right college major, looking for employment, or getting counseling services for personal situations. The professional counselors at the center are on-hand for career, personal, and crisis counseling and consultation sessions. All sessions are confidential, and longer-term services are referred to area resources.
The Learning Success Center exists to help students of Mount Hood Community College achieve academic success. Services include Writing and Reading Support (with Learning Specialists to assist in various stages of reading and writing needs); Math Help (tutoring services for all things math-related); Computer Help (assistance on MS Office, Internet, and other software applications); tutoring for Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Engineering, and Physics; programs for ESL and ENL learners; and other services.
